Boost Christmas Profits with AI Courier Claims

All I want for Christmas is…successful deliveries.
From delays and damages to losses and theft, the Christmas season is renowned for delivery issues. Last year, for example, the Claimit platform processed 5x more claims for failed deliveries in December than August.
While successful deliveries are the responsibility of your courier, you're the one that suffers if there's an issue with 52% of UK shoppers holding retailers accountable for losses and damages.
But with AI-powered courier claims, you can automatically recoup compensation for courier performance and bag your e-commerce business a pre-Christmas profits boost.
Here's what you need to know.
E-commerce couriers' Christmas delivery issues
According to Citizens Advice, 15 million people in the UK suffered a problem with their last parcel delivery and 68% experienced a delivery issue in the past six months, such as delays (28%), undelivered parcels (16%) and damaged goods (15%).
And that's during normal times.
At Christmas, there is a surge in e-commerce shipments and parcel deliveries. In 2024, online shopping reached 27% of all UK retail sales in December with couriers like Evri reporting its biggest-ever delivery week (24.7 million parcels).
This year, Parcelhero estimates a 10% rise in deliveries between October and December with almost 1.5 billion parcels set to be delivered by the end of the Christmas peak. But this spike in demand also leads to a sharp rise in delivery issues.
Delays. More orders = more parcels = more problems. Add in the complications of adverse weather, driver shortages and heightened customer expectations (i.e. Next Day delivery) and logistics networks face an uphill struggle. Last year, Yodel even temporarily halted deliveries for e-commerce customers, such as eBay and New Look, after suffering a capacity crisis in early December.
Damages. Under intense time pressure, stressed and inexperienced temporary staff are more likely to make mistakes. Which? found that online orders had been jammed through letterboxes, chucked over fences and even chewed by foxes at Christmas.
Losses. The likelihood of lost packages increases by 21% in December. Many couriers take on temporary workers in December (i.e. Royal Mail hired 16,000 temporary workers for peak season 2024), but inexperienced staff and overwhelmed logistics networks are the perfect cocktail for misplacing shipments.
Theft. Given 24% of UK shoppers reported parcels being left in insecure locations, such as a doorstep or next to bins, it's no surprise that around 3.5 million UK households have a parcel stolen each year. 'Porch piracy' peaks in December with multiple parcels left unguarded.
How AI-powered courier claims tackles poor courier performance
For Britons sending Christmas gifts themselves in 2025, Royal Mail (54%) is by far the most popular courier with Evri (4%) second. But for online retailers, Evri is the most popular, followed by Royal Mail and DPD.
No matter which courier you use, Claimit's automated courier claims platform has you covered.
Delays. Claimit's platform enables you to track shipments in real-time from one centralised dashboard. We also flag shipping errors in advance (i.e. if a shipment goes to the wrong distribution centre), so you can spot potential delays, request couriers perform manual checks and proactively fix the issue before customers complain.
Damages. If a customer complains about a damaged item, Claimit's platform will automatically check the claim's eligibility against the courier's Ts&Cs and compile the specific information needed to file a claim. For instance, DPD accepts claims for damaged parcels, but requires a detailed Damage Report within seven working days of parcel delivery.
Losses. Instead of waiting for a customer complaint, Claimit's platform uses AI to spot lost parcels in advance and sends an alert to your customer support team. You can then file a lost parcel claim according to the courier's claims rules and list of loss exclusions (i.e. Royal Mail does not accept claims for losses due to severe weather conditions) in just a few clicks.
Theft. The Claimit dashboard tracks your deliveries, so your customer team can better provide advice and quickly send replacements to those with a stolen parcel, avoiding a negative experience. If the courier is at fault - i.e. through inappropriate placing of parcels - the platform can also file a compensation claim.
